چکیده

The goal of this paper is to present the history of the electronic computer. The first electronic computer named ENIAC was presented in 1945. It was a vacuum tubes electronic version of calculators as proposed by Pascal and Babbage. The modern computer organization is due to Von Neumann. Several computers were designed according to the Von Neumann architecture, i.e. the first commercial machine UNIVAC followed by the IBM 701 and 702. The next step was the replacement of the vacuum tubes by more reliable, smaller and faster transistors. Programming languages were provided, such as FORTRAN and COBOL. The basic architecture as well as the languages do not change significantly for the next generation of computers, such as the IBM 360 series. Only the implementation was quite different, based on microprogrammed and pipelined architectures using integrated circuits.

What Do We Know about Macroeconomics That Fisher and Wicksell Did Not?

This essay argues that the history of macroeconomics during the twentieth century can be divided into three epochs. From 1940 to 1980: a period during which an integrated framework was developed—from the IS-LM to dyn...
